About Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel, is one of the most well-known authors in children's literature. Known for his playful rhymes and unique characters, Dr. Seuss penned and illustrated books that have entertained multiple generations, including Green Eggs and Ham and Cat in the Hat. When he created the character Grinch for How the Grinch Stole Christmas, he probably did not realize he would be inventing a new English word for a mean and dispirited person, now defined and memorialized in the pages of multiple dictionaries.

He got his start drawing illustrations for the advertising industry, including ads for an insect repellent. We bet that’s a little-known fact you could throw out at a children’s birthday party when someone gets a Seuss book.
